My Bio

         All About Me

Sierra Smith was born Sept. 13, 1992, in Davenport, Iowa. Her family was only there a few years before packing up and moving to Cleveland, Tenn. She attended Stuart Elementary School all the way through fifth grade.
When Sierra was eight years old she joined the Cleveland Aqua Tigers, a summer swimming league, where she fell in love with the sport. She continued swimming once she went to middle school, only now she was able to be on a school’s team.
Smith was also a part of the middle school’s concert band where she mastered the art of percussion. Her goal with percussion was to be the first female tenor player to march for the high school marching band.
When she got into high school she stayed with band and swimming. She was one of the faster people on the swim team. Smith was a distance swimmer doing the 500 and 200 freestyle. Her favorite event, however, was the 50 freestyle. She made it to the State Championships in swimming every year she was in high school. Swimming was very much a huge part of her life. She looked up to her coach for more than just swimming help. She was more of a mentor.
Sierra did not do marching band all through high school, but she did accomplish her goal. Her junior year she was the first girl to ever march tenors for the band. It was not that she did not still love band her senior year, she just felt like she needed to concentrate more on swimming, school work, and getting into college.
By the end of her senior year she still had no idea where she wanted to go to college. One of her friends suggested Middle Tennessee State University and that is where she went. She wanted to keep swimming but MTSU does not have a swim team, although, they do have a marching band, Band of Blue. Sierra’s parents convinced her that she should join the marching band, and that is exactly what she did.
Right now she is a Mass Communications major and is still in band. The season is over right now, but she will be back in those stands next semester. She still has a few more years of college and she is planning on making them the best few years she has had.
